Laboratory Analyses

Description:

The purpose of this package is the analysis of samples collected from the sampling of WP2 and WP3. For this WP internationally accepted protocols will be followed for the analyses in the laboratories of the UoC and HCMR. The study of the interaction between all these biotic communities makes it possible to detect different patterns of control than only bottom-up (which is traditionally considered in cases of eutrophication) and top-down which appears to play an important role at least in oligotrophic environments.

Planned activities:

-Analysis of macrofauna: sorting and identification to species level, calculation of diversity indices and indicators of environmental quality (BENTIX, AMBI, BQI).

-Analysis of seagrasses: analysis of the rhizome elongation rate using image analysis and metabolism

-Analysis of phytoplankton: analysis microphytoplankton at the species level using inverted microscopy.-

-Analysis of zooplankton: analysis of microzooplankton using inverted microscopy

-Analysis of microbial abundance in the water column: count of bacteria, viruses and flagellates by means of flow cytometry and fluorescent microscopy

-Molecular analysis of bacteria with DGGE, and metagenomics analysis of microbial communities.

-Other molecular analyses (Capitellaspp): Detection of the influence of natural selection in specific genes related oxygen consumption.

-Geochemical analysis: nutrients, organic carbon, pigments, oxygen, etc.
