Mathematical Biology Lab

PI: Dr. K. Lika

The Mathematical Biology Lab (MBL) focuses on development and analysis of mathematical models of biological systems. The emphasis is on the effects of environmental changes, toxicants and other stressors on physiological responses of marine organisms and on population dynamics.

During the past 15 years MBL members have developed models to explore and describe the photosynthetic responses of marine phytoplankton to changes in the underwater light and CO2 concentrations and dynamic energy budget (DEB) models for heterotrophs, autotrophs and mixotrophs with applications in ecophysiology, aquaculture and biodegradation of phenolic compounds.
