About Hypoxia Project

The project “Benthic pelagic coupling: hypoxia and regime shifts” (HYPOXIA) studies through a multi-disciplinary investigation the problem of eutrophication and the induced hypoxia, in coastal marine ecosystems of the Aegean sea. Furthermore, using four independent approaches (field sampling, large experiments, meta-analysis and modelling) allows the exploitation of benefits of each of them and overcome the limitations posed by others in some of the objectives of the study.

HYPOXIA involves and the Univerisity of Crete (Biology Department) and the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research and it is co-financed by the European Union (European Social Fund-ESF) and Greek national funds through the Operational Program "Education and Lifelong Learning" of the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF)-Research Funding Program: Aristeia II
